After a fifteen-year tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Nick Fury, the esteemed actor Samuel L. Jackson is finally receiving a long-awaited solo project.

Set to air on Disney+, the upcoming series titled Secret Invasion marks an important milestone for the character and fans alike, shedding light on his enigmatic background and the events unfolding in his absence from Earth.

The inception of the expansive MCU occurred in May 2008 with the release of Iron Man, a cinematic triumph that birthed a film franchise comprising over 30 movies, amassing a staggering global revenue of more than $29 billion. Additionally, the MCU has expanded its influence through nearly a dozen TV series and specials.

Although the charismatic Robert Downey Jr. breathed life into Tony Stark, the iconic Iron Man, it was Nick Fury, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson, who beckoned Stark into a realm teeming with extraordinary individuals. With his trademark eye patch and leather trench coat, Fury's appearance in the post-credits scene of Iron Man was brief but pivotal, uttering the prophetic line that set Marvel Studios' master plan into motion: "Mr. Stark, you've become a part of a bigger universe. You just don't know it yet."

Since that fateful introduction, Jackson has reprised his role as Nick Fury in ten MCU films, including notable appearances in episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and What If…?. This outstanding body of work has firmly established Jackson as one of the most prolific actors associated with Marvel Studios, second only to the late Stan Lee.

However, it is worth noting that a significant portion of Jackson's contributions to the MCU comprised cameo appearances in post-credits scenes. His most substantial supporting role came in the form of a de-aged portrayal of a younger Fury in 2019's Captain Marvel.

Now, after a remarkable fifteen-year journey since Iron Man graced the silver screen, Fury is finally receiving his own dedicated project as the central figure in Secret Invasion, an eagerly anticipated series set to premiere on Disney+ this Wednesday.

Secret Invasion represents Marvel's first foray into Phase 5 of their cinematic universe and is notably the first MCU television series since 2021's Hawkeye that does not revolve around the introduction of a new superhero. Instead, this six-episode limited series delves into the world of the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., a world significantly altered from the one in which we witnessed his first encounter with a billionaire industrialist.

Drawing heavily upon the events and characters introduced in Captain Marvel, Secret Invasion also incorporates minor appearances by the shape-shifting Skrulls from other MCU projects. However, at its core, this narrative represents a culmination of more than a decade's worth of storytelling, as it provides an opportunity for Marvel's most elusive character to shine a light on his mysterious past and expound upon his recent ventures in deep space.

In Secret Invasion, Fury reemerges, shouldering the latest global threat without the assistance of the renowned Avengers. As the story unfolds across six episodes, each spanning an hour, audiences will finally witness the intricacies of his character and the challenges he faces in a world teetering on the precipice of disaster.
