Nicki Minaj Crowned Best Female Rapper of All Time by Billboard in Definitive Ranking

Nicki Minaj Crowned Best Female Rapper Ever in Billboard's Historic Ranking

Nicki Minaj has been officially named the greatest female rapper of all time by Billboard, securing the top position in the publication’s newly released feature, "The 25 Best Female Rappers of All-Time." Compiled by Billboard’s esteemed hip hop editorial staff, the list celebrates the most influential women in rap history, with Minaj’s placement at No. 1 underscoring her transformative impact on the genre.

Billboard’s 2025 ranking lauds Minaj for her seismic influence, crediting her with redefining the landscape for female rappers since her debut. “Nicki Minaj quickly usurped the throne and stylistically rewrote the playbook for female rappers, while becoming an architect of pop music in the process,” the staff wrote, highlighting her arrival with Pink Friday in 2010 as a pivotal moment in hip hop.

The album, which blended razor-sharp lyricism with pop sensibilities, catapulted her to global stardom and set a new standard for versatility in the genre. Her catalog spanning five studio albums, including the chart topping Pink Friday 2 (2023) demonstrates a rare ability to evolve while maintaining a commanding presence, a quality that Billboard emphasized in its evaluation.

The criteria for the list included body of work, cultural impact, longevity, lyrical prowess, and flow, areas where Minaj’s 15-year career shines brightly. She holds the record as the first female rapper to surpass 100 Billboard Hot 100 entries, a milestone achieved in 2018, with her total now standing at 149 as of early 2025.

Hits like “Super Bass,” “Anaconda,” and the 2022 chart topper “Super Freaky Girl” her first solo No. 1 on the Hot 100 illustrate her commercial dominance and knack for crafting era defining anthems. Beyond the charts, her use of alter egos like Roman Zolanski and her theatrical delivery have expanded the artistic boundaries of rap, influencing a generation of MCs who followed in her wake.

Minaj’s cultural footprint extends far beyond music. With over 100 million records sold worldwide, she stands as the best-selling female rapper in history, a statistic bolstered by the success of her Pink Friday 2 world tour, which became the highest-grossing tour by a female rapper ever, grossing over $67 million by late 2024.

Billboard noted this achievement as evidence of her economic power and enduring fanbase, affectionately known as the Barbz. Her influence also spans fashion, television via her Queen Radio platform and mentorship, with artists like Megan Thee Stallion and Ice Spice citing her as a trailblazer. Contemporary stars like Cardi B, Doja Cat, and Latto also made the cut, but Minaj’s top billing reflects her unparalleled consistency and breadth of impact.
