Teyana Taylor Seeks Legal Action Against Iman Shumpert Over Alleged False Divorce Settlement Claims
Teyana Taylor has reignited the public spotlight on her contentious divorce from Iman Shumpert, in a Georgia court to address what she describes as a “false narrative” surrounding their settlement. The singer, actress, and entrepreneur accused her ex husband of deliberately leaking inaccurate details about their divorce agreement to the media.
The controversy stems from reports that emerged earlier in March 2025, suggesting Teyana Taylor had secured a lucrative settlement following the finalization of their divorce in July 2024. These reports, circulated by various entertainment outlets, claimed she received a seven-figure payout, ownership of four properties valued at over $10 million, and a fleet of luxury vehicles, including a Maybach and a Mercedes Sprinter.
Additionally, it was alleged that Shumpert was ordered to pay $8,000 per month in child support for their two daughters, Iman "Junie" Tayla Shumpert Jr., 9, and Rue Rose Shumpert, 4. However, Taylor’s legal motion, as reported by E! News and other sources, asserts that no such settlement was agreed upon at the time of their divorce finalization, which was sealed to maintain confidentiality.
In her court documents, Teyana Taylor alleges that Shumpert orchestrated the dissemination of these misleading details, potentially as a strategic move to bolster his public image amid the release of new music. She claims that this breach of their confidentiality agreement prompted her to take legal action, seeking a 20 day jail sentence and financial penalties for Shumpert.
Taylor further noted that her attorney reached out to Shumpert’s legal team to halt the spread of the alleged misinformation, only for Iman Shumpert to deny any involvement in the leaks. Her filing paints a picture of frustration, arguing that the fabricated narrative has caused unnecessary public speculation and damage to her reputation.
Adding to the discourse, Taylor’s mother and manager, Nikki Taylor, addressed the situation in a statement to Hot New Hip Hop on March 17, 2025. Nikki clarified that while the divorce was indeed finalized in July 2024, the recent wave of blog posts falsely implied a new settlement had been reached.
She emphasized that the division of assets was equitable, with Taylor retaining full ownership of her companies, Taylormade and Auntie’s, and Shumpert keeping his Shumpert Shump investments. Both parties also held onto various properties and vehicles, debunking the notion of a one-sided windfall for Taylor. Nikki’s comments aimed to set the record straight, highlighting the inaccuracies that have fueled the ongoing controversy.
