Sophia Egbueje Unveils Lamborghini Purchase Amid Burna Boy Controversy
Sophia Egbueje has acquired a Lamborghini, a move that follows allegations of a broken promise by Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy. The unfolding saga, which erupted in late February 2025, centers on Egbueje’s claim that Burna Boy failed to deliver on a commitment to gift her the luxury vehicle after an intimate encounter.
The controversy first broke on February 27, when a leaked audio recording surfaced online, featuring Egbueje in conversation with an unnamed friend. In the recording, she detailed how Burna Boy allegedly promised her a Lamborghini valued at approximately 552 million Naira ($345,000 USD) as an incentive for a romantic liaison.
Egbueje, a well known Lagos based influencer recognized for her opulent lifestyle, alleged that the encounter took place after mutual acquaintances, including Burna Boy’s personal assistant Manny and influencer Ama Reginald, encouraged her to pursue the arrangement.
However, she claimed that after fulfilling her part of the supposed deal, Burna became unresponsive, leaving the promise unfulfilled and her feeling exploited.
Burna Boy’s response came swiftly on February 28 via his Instagram Story, where he posted a freestyle video that appeared to address the situation without directly naming Sophia Egbueje. In the clip, he sang, “If you no get me, forget about it. I no buy you Lambo, is that why you are shouting? Where dem dey? I no dey see them at all,” adopting a playful yet dismissive tone.
The video, which coincided with his arrival in Kenya for a performance, divided public opinion. Some fans lauded his nonchalant swagger, interpreting it as a hallmark of his “Odogwu” persona, while others criticized it as an evasive sidestep of a serious accusation, further fueling debates about his character and responsibilities as a public figure.
Undeterred by the artist’s retort, Egbueje escalated the narrative on March 1, announcing her purchase of a white Lamborghini. Posting a photo of the sleek vehicle on her Instagram Story, she captioned it, “My baby is here, as dem no buy am, I buy am,” translating to “Since they didn’t buy it, I bought it.”
The acquisition, reportedly self-funded, has been hailed by some as a bold statement of independence and resilience. Estimates place the car’s cost between 552 million and 650 million Naira, a sum that underscores Egbueje’s financial clout and her determination to reclaim agency in the wake of the alleged betrayal.
