Ruger’s ‘BlownBoy RU’ Tops Charts and Shatters Streaming Records
BlownBoy RU, which dropped on March 28, 2025, under his independent label, BlownBoy Entertainment. The 13-track project has swiftly risen to prominence, claiming the No. 1 position on the Apple Music Nigeria Top Albums Chart within 24 hours of its debut. The album has also broken streaming records, amassing an impressive 1.17 million streams on Spotify globally on its first full day.
The album’s meteoric rise reflects months of anticipation built through strategic single releases and Ruger’s evolving artistry. BlownBoy RU features a dynamic blend of Afrobeats, dancehall, and pop, showcasing the versatility that has become a hallmark of Ruger’s sound.
Leading the charge are standout tracks like “Toma Toma,” a collaboration with Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage, which had already garnered over 30 million global streams as a pre-release single.
Other highlights include “Jay Jay,” a high-energy anthem, and “Dudu,” featuring Jamaican dancehall artist Kranium, which adds a smooth Caribbean flair to the project. These songs, paired with Ruger’s signature gritty vocals and infectious rhythms, have fueled the album’s early triumph.
Ruger, born Michael Adebayo Olayinka, launched BlownBoy Entertainment in 2024 after parting ways with Jonzing World, the label that kickstarted his career with hits like “Bounce” and “Dior.” This move to independence has clearly paid off, with BlownBoy RU marking his first full length release under the new banner.

The album represents a bold step forward, blending his established Afro dancehall roots with fresh influences that appeal to both loyal fans and new listeners. Tracks like “REintroduction” set the tone, asserting Ruger’s confidence and artistic growth, while collaborations with artists such as Zlatan, Valiant, and Haile broaden its sonic palette.
The streaming numbers tell only part of the story. On its debut day, BlownBoy RU not only topped Apple Music Nigeria but also saw significant traction on Spotify, where it outperformed many regional contemporaries. Industry observers note that the 1.17 million streams on March 29 reflect a carefully orchestrated rollout.
Bolstered by pre-release buzz around singles like “Toma Toma” and “Toro.” The latter, performed earlier in March on the COLORS platform, hinted at the album’s potential to dominate airwaves and playlists. This achievement positions Ruger among Nigeria’s elite hitmakers, alongside names like Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido, while carving out his own distinct lane.
