Lionel Messi’s Scoring Return Signals Bright Future for Inter Miami in CONCACAF Champions Cup

Lionel Messi delivered a moment of brilliance for Inter Miami, providing a significant boost to the team’s ambitions in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. On March 13, 2025, the Argentine superstar came off the bench during a Round of 16 clash against Cavalier FC at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, marking his first appearance in four matches.

Messi on the pitch

Messi, who had been sidelined for several games due to a carefully managed workload following a busy offseason, entered the match in the 53rd minute. His presence injected renewed energy into an already dominant Inter Miami side, and his late strike underscored why he remains one of the most formidable talents in global football.

The goal, a clinical finish in the dying moments of the game, was his third of the 2025 season across all competitions, complementing the two assists he has already provided in just four appearances. More importantly, post match reports confirmed that Messi emerged from the game feeling “very good” physically, with no signs of discomfort a promising sign for a club that has leaned heavily on his brilliance since his arrival in 2023.

Messi’s absence from recent matches had been a precautionary measure by Inter Miami’s coaching staff, led by Gerardo “Tata” Martino, to ensure the 37 year-old icon remains fit for a demanding 2025 campaign that spans the MLS regular season, Leagues Cup, and now the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

His return against Cavalier FC was meticulously timed, allowing him to regain match sharpness while avoiding unnecessary strain. The decision paid dividends, as Messi not only contributed to the scoreline but also demonstrated the sharpness and composure that have defined his illustrious career.

The victory in Jamaica sets up an intriguing quarterfinal matchup for Inter Miami, with their next opponent to be determined by the outcomes of other Round of 16 fixtures. For now, the focus remains on Messi’s reintegration and the team’s growing momentum.

With the MLS season also underway Inter Miami’s next league fixture is a home clash against Atlanta United on March 16, 2025 the club is positioning itself as a contender on multiple fronts, and Messi’s fitness will be central to those aspirations.

Since joining Inter Miami in the summer of 2023, Messi has transformed the club’s fortunes, bringing unparalleled attention to the MLS and delivering on the pitch with remarkable consistency. In the 2025 season alone, his three goals and two assists in limited appearances highlight his ability to influence games even with restricted minutes.
