Davido’s Highly Anticipated Album "5ive" Pushed Back to April 2025

Davido has shifted the release of his eagerly awaited fifth studio album, 5ive, from its original March 14, 2025, date to April 18, 2025, according to updates spotted on digital streaming platforms like Apple Music. The Nigerian superstar first announced the March drop in December 2024 via his social media channels.

Davido had teased 5ive as a significant chapter in his discography, building on the monumental success of his 2023 album Timeless, which solidified his status as a leading voice in African music. In his initial announcement, he described the forthcoming release as a deeply introspective work, promising a mix of his signature Afrobeat sound with fresh influences.

Tracks like “Awuke,” featuring YG Marley, and “Funds,” a collaboration with Odumodublvck and Chike, were highlighted as early tastes of what’s to come, fueling anticipation for a genre-defining record. Yet, with the new April date now confirmed, it appears March 2025 won’t be “Davido’s month” as originally planned.

While the artist has yet to provide an official statement explaining the delay, the move has sparked a wave of theories among fans and industry observers. One prevailing idea is that Davido and his team may be strategically sidestepping Ramadan, which begins in mid-March and overlaps with the original release window.

The holy month could potentially dampen streaming activity among his substantial Muslim audience, a key demographic in Nigeria and beyond. Others speculate that the extra month allows for additional production polish, ensuring 5ive meets the lofty standards set by Timeless, which earned Grammy nominations and widespread critical acclaim.

There’s also the possibility of logistical adjustments be it finalizing collaborations, tweaking mixes, or aligning with label priorities though no concrete details have surfaced.

This isn’t uncharted territory for Davido. His 2019 album A Good Time faced similar last-minute scheduling shifts before its eventual release, a decision that paid off with hits like “Risky” and “Blow My Mind” dominating charts. That precedent suggests the postponement of 5ive could be a calculated effort to maximize impact rather than a sign of trouble.

With his track record of blending Afrobeat with global sounds evident in past collaborations with artists like Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj fans are hopeful the additional time will refine what’s already being billed as an evolution of his artistry.
