Neymar Exposes PSG Inside Ego War: Neymar Reveals Mbappe's Jealousy of Messi at PSG
Neymar discussed the dynamics of the formidable trio at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) that included himself, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi. The Brazilian forward claimed that, during their time together, Mbappe exhibited signs of jealousy towards Messi, leading to an ego war within the team.
PSG's acquisition of top-tier talent began in 2017 when Neymar and Mbappe joined the club, followed by Messi's arrival in 2021. This ambitious project aimed to create a super team capable of dominating both the domestic league and the UEFA Champions League. While the trio enjoyed success in Ligue 1, their quest for Champions League glory remained elusive.
Neymar, Brazil's all-time leading goalscorer, shared his perspective on the evolving relationship with Mbappe during his time at PSG. Speaking on the podcast "De Cara Com O Cara," he stated, "I have my things with him; we had a little fight, but he was fundamental for us when he arrived. I used to call him 'golden boy.' I always played with him, saying he was going to be one of the best."
However, Neymar noted a shift in Mbappe's behavior following Messi's entry into the squad. "After Messi came, he was a little jealous. He didn't want to share me with anyone. And then there were some fights, a change in behavior," Neymar explained.
Neymar acknowledged the presence of egos within a star-studded lineup but emphasized the necessity of teamwork. "It is good to have egos. But you have to know that you don't play alone. There needs to be another guy by your side. (Big) egos were almost everywhere; it can't work. If nobody runs and nobody helps, it is impossible to win anything."
In 2023, Neymar departed PSG, following fellow football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema to the Saudi Pro League, where he signed with Al-Hilal. Meanwhile, Mbappe continued his journey in professional football, ultimately joining Real Madrid in 2024 after years of speculation regarding a transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu.
