Impact of AI on Creativity: Boosts Individual Innovation, Diminishes Collective Output. The study, involving a diverse pool of participants, aimed to explore the impact of creativity on short story writing in the context of AI assistance. 

Participants were tasked with crafting concise stories suitable for a broad audience, with some groups relying solely on their creative abilities, while others had the option to consult GPT-4 for story prompts.

Following the story creation phase, evaluations were conducted by both the authors and a group unaware of the AI assistance. These evaluations focused on various aspects such as novelty, potential for publication, and emotional engagement. 

Interestingly, participants with lower creativity metrics tended to produce stories that received lower evaluations, highlighting the correlation between creativity levels and story quality.

Prior to engaging in the story creation process, participants completed a word-production task acting as a proxy for creativity. This task aimed to indirectly gauge participants' creativity in writing. 

Recognizing the complexity of measuring such a multifaceted concept. Hauser emphasized the challenges associated with accurately quantifying creativity, reflecting the ongoing debate within the research community.
