Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Barry Jenkins, the prequel follows the success of the 2019 photorealistic remake of the Disney classic. The film will delve into the backstory of the iconic character Mufasa, exploring his origins and childhood with his brother Scar.

Younger versions of Mufasa and Scar will be voiced by Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr, respectively. Notable returning cast members include Donald Glover as Simba, BeyoncΓ© as Nala, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar from the 2019 remake.


BeyoncΓ© will reprise her role in the Mufasa film, which will feature original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of Hamilton. Other additions to the cast include Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and Donald Glover.


The teaser trailer for the film premiered on the US morning show Good Morning America, hinting at the transformative journey of Mufasa's life. Blue Ivy Carter, at 12 years old, makes her debut in a film role, showcasing her talents beyond performing a dance routine during her mother's tour.
