Ghanaian Actress Yvonne Nelson Reveals Termination of Pregnancy for Rapper Sarkodie
Yvonne Nelson Opens Up: Sarkodie's Involvement Led to Her Decision to Abort Pregnancy
Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson, renowned for her outstanding performances, has unveiled a significant revelation regarding her personal life.
In her critically acclaimed book titled "I am not Yvonne Nelson," which was ceremoniously launched at Peduase Lodge in Ghana on a momentous Sunday, she courageously discloses an intimate affair with the esteemed rapper Sarkodie back in 2010, culminating in her subsequent decision to terminate a pregnancy.
Within the compelling pages of chapter eight, specifically spanning from page 88 to 95, Yvonne pens a poignant account of this pivotal incident. She recounts the emotional journey she embarked upon, beginning with the realization of a potential pregnancy—a natural inference for a sexually active young woman experiencing a missed menstrual cycle.
During this delicate time, Yvonne found solace in the presence of her confidante Karen, who accompanied her for a definitive pregnancy test. Overwhelmed by trepidation, Yvonne found herself lacking the fortitude to open the test result. It was Karen who, with unwavering support, unveiled the outcome and pronounced the verdict.
‘Charlie, it dey there!’, she exclaimed.
“On an ordinary day, I would have laughed out loud and that would trigger a string of jolly conversations and jokes. But this was no laughing matter. It was a grim piece of information that was capable of turning my world upside down.
“I wasn’t the only one responsible for the situation, so I called the man whose potent seed had germinated in me. His name is Michael Owusu Addo, a renowned Ghanaian musician who is better known as Sarkodie”
Nelson added, “I wouldn’t call what had developed between us a serious relationship. I gravitated toward people in the music industry. For the longest time in my life, music was my getaway from all the unpleasant things life threw at me. So, I liked his talent. We started talking and got close, closer.
In the book, the actress narrated how she attempted to abort the pregnancy by taking concoctions from a colleague but the substance could not work as a test carried out revealed she was still pregnant.
“The first thing that hit me when he said no to keeping the pregnancy was my own life. I had grown up without a father in my life. I had often been reminded of how I had been borne by mistake.
“I was still wondering if the man whose name I bore was my father. How was I going to bring another human being into this world to live like me, someone whose father would reject him or her as Mr. Nelson had rejected me? If there was a way to spare someone else the trauma I was contending with, why would I reject that option, especially when I was not,” Yvonne Nelson said in her book.
Reflecting upon the consequential turn of events, Yvonne Nelson vividly recollects the eventual success she achieved in terminating the pregnancy, albeit acknowledging it as one of the most profound and remorseful errors in her personal journey.
Expressing poignant remorse, she ardently conveys that if the hands of time possessed the remarkable ability to reverse its course, transporting her back to her youthful self, she would undeniably have chosen to nurture and preserve the life within her.
