Burna Boy Claims Lack of Credit Despite Being the Best Global Artist
Burna Boy Reflects on Lack of Recognition Despite Being 'the Best in the World' and Draws Comparison to Jesus.
Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy, has expressed his belief that he is not receiving adequate recognition, despite considering himself to be "the best in the world."
During a conversation with industry experts, including Nigerian-British show promoter Adesegun Adeosun Jnr, also known as Smade, and podcaster Adesope, popularly known as Shopsydoo, after his performance at the Afronation festival in Portugal, Burna Boy conveyed his indifference towards not receiving sufficient credit, drawing a comparison to Jesus, who he noted did not receive recognition until after his death.
In a viral video capturing the conversation, Smade can be heard expressing admiration, stating, "Burna, you keep blessing us, man. No, you don't get your credits enough, bro. You're the best in the world."
In response, Burna Boy remarked, "No, I don't [get enough credits]. Jesus also didn't get his own credits till he died, so who am I? [Laughs]"
Shopsydoo further added, "It's not about Afrobeats anymore, it's about worldwide domination."
Burna Boy won BET Award for Best International Act at the Black Entertainment Awards (BET) 2023.
Burna beat compatriot Ayra Starr, Aya Nakamura, Central Cee, Ella Mai, K.O, L7nnon, Stormzy, Tiakola and Uncle Waffles to emerge winner in the category.
The Nigerian singer, who has had amazing last couple years, was not present at the show but his mother Bose Ogulu, who also doubles as his manager received the award on his behalf.
