Tiwa Savage’s epic performance at King Charles III’s coronation concert

Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage made history Sunday evening when she performed at the coronation concert of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle in England.

It was the first time a Nigerian artiste would perform at the royal coronation and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Over 20000 people attended the Coronation concert, organised by the BBC, while, globally, over 18 million people viewed it.

A high point of her performance was the two ‘Bata’ (Talking drums) drummers who came to play beside her leaving the well-packed concert attendees screaming with Joy.

Tiwa, who thrilled the audience with her beautiful voice, rendered “Keys to the Kingdom,” a song she recorded with Mr Eazi and featured on BeyoncΓ©’s album “The Lion King’’ released in July 2019.

She performed on the large stage, accompanied by an orchestra that included violinists, drummers, and backup singers who sang in Yoruba and English.

Savage looked stunning for the star-studded concert. The “Koroba” artist donned an off-the-shoulder green dress

The shiny piece featured a fitted corseted bodice, a ruffled accent at the center and a flowy skirt. The garment also included a long sash that draped from the waist and created a dramatic train.

She was introduced as the “Queen of Afrobeat,” and rightfully so, as she mesmerized the audience with her electrifying performance.

The significance of this event cannot be overstated, as the singer became the first African artist to perform at the coronation of a British Monarch.

Her inclusion in the royal festivities marks a significant milestone in the recognition of African music on a global scale.

Nigeria, her home country, couldn’t be prouder of her accomplishment, as social media platforms were flooded with messages of congratulations and admiration.

Tiwa Savage has undoubtedly inspired many with her passion, talent, and dedication to her craft.

The coronation concert is part of the celebrations of the coronation of King Charles III and his wife, Camilla, as King and Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the other Commonwealth realms that took place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday.

The Coronation Concert, broadcast live at Windsor Castle by the BBC and BBC Studios, follows the coronation of King Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort.

The list of performers included Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, Sir Bryn Terfel, Take That, Freya Ridings and Alexis Ffrench.

The show also featured a performance by The Coronation Choir, a group that recruited members from different choirs across the U.K., including refugee choirs, NHS choirs, LGBTQ+ choirs and deaf signing choirs.
